LICATA EXTENDS POINTS LEAD WITH DOMINATING PERFORMANCE

LAKE BALBOA, CALIF. (JULY 12, 2010) – Joey Licata, Jr. swept the weekend’s ASA TRUCK SERIES activities at Toyota Speedway in Irwindale, Calif., winning the 50 lap feature to claim his fourth win of the 2010 season.

Licata, the 2009 series champion, extended his points lead in the 2010 campaign.  The 18 year-old driver is a member of the Ron Sutton’s Winner’s Circle driver development team in Sacramento, Calif. and also drives Late Models for Tim Huddleson’s High Point Racing.

He has finished and qualified in the top-two in all six ASA TRUCK SERIES races he’s entered.

After leading all the practice sessions in the afternoon, Licata took home his fifth pole of the season with a time of 19.92 seconds around the half-mile asphalt oval track.

Licata started the feature in fifth after a five truck invert, and at the end of lap two was already up into third.

On lap six, Licata took over second and he started to ease his truck in towards the lead.  By lap 35, Licata was ready to make his move and he took over the lead easily.

A caution on lap 42 bunched the field up for an eight lap shootout, but Licata drove away to a comfortable win.

“This was a big weekend for Joey as he continues to gain experience at Irwindale,” Head of Driver Development Ron Sutton said.  “Joey is showing no signs of slowing down!”

Licata’s next scheduled race is July 24 in the Auto Club Late Models at Toyota Speedway.
